Shameem Black is Associate Professor in Gender, Media and Cultural Studies in the School of Culture, History and Language, College of Asia and the Pacific, at the Australian National University. She is a co-editor of South Asia: Journal of South Asian Studies. Her work uses critical and creative approaches to analyse twenty-first-century fiction and popular culture from India and its diaspora. Key themes in her work include gender, memory, and cross-cultural practice. She is the author of Fiction Across Borders: Imagining the Lives of Others in Twenty-First Century Novels (Columbia University Press, 2010) and Flexible India: Yoga's Cultural and Political Tensions (Columbia University Press, forthcoming 2023).
